1998 camaro rear help???

Hey, i have a 1998 camaro v6 and the rear is going bad im pretty sure its the ring and pinion because the more torqe i put on the peadle the louder it gets (like a griding dragging noise) but i wanted to know what years i could swap a rear out of also i looked on the door at the rppo codes saw "GU4" i think the gear ratio would be 3.08 right?? also people have told be that was a very rare ratios and its wasnt used much is that true??? i think i could use years 1996-02 because 96 is fourth gen or would it be 98-02??? please let me know also if you can give me an idea what tools and how i remove the rear i think i know but just wanna make sure before i get under there and start removing everthing. thanks!

3.08 was the common ratio for V6s',not rare at all-just the opposite-very common.
3.42s' with 'posi' was the rare one for V6s'.
Since you have a 98 V6,you have a 3 channel ABS system,4 channel ABS & Traction Control was not available for 98 V6ers'.
You do have 4 wheel disc that started for V6 in 98.
For swapping in a complete rearend assembly, any 3 channel rearend (ABS sensor on top of the rearend housing)(4 channel has sensors at each axle backing plate and is not compatable with your system) and to maintain disc brakes, yes 96-02.
Unless you find/use another V6 3.08 rearend, you will need to get the computor 'tuned' to correct the speedometer if using an A4 automatic rearend(from Z28/SS) of 2.73 or 3.23,or a M6 sixspeed rearend(from Z28/SS) of 3.42. The 2.73,3.23,3.42 rearends would have 'posi',a Auburn for 98 & earlier and Torsen for 99 & later.
