Exclamation 4l60 skipping 2nd only?

I have a 95 z28 with the 4l60e, I'm wondering, what are some probable causes that would make my transmission start skipping second gear? From first gear you have to take it up to 3k or so then, after you are going about 20-25 it will shift into third if you let up on the throttle, and feel much less powerful than it should. also when you lay into it at highway speeds, instead of kicking down into 2nd, it will go into first, and redline itself. You have to then let up on the gas to just use third gear.

Ive had this problem for awhile now, and its getting annoying...

What about a 4th? Mine is messed up and only has 1st and 3rd. I have not tore into it yet but likely the 2-4 band. If you still have 4th then i would assume shift solenoid or 2 servo? Not too hard to change. But i would wait for a reply from the 4l60e guru frank to get a more direct answer on what the problem could be.

94 Z28 4l60e. Reworked heads ported and polished. Cam 3" catback flowmasters. And common bolt ons.

The 2-4 band has to be applied for 2nd gear. The band coming on and the "A" shift solenoid going OFF and the shift valve moving are what needs to happen on the 1-2 upshift. The band is also applied during 3rd gear, as well as the 3-4 clutch which comes on during the 2-3 shift. The servo applies the band. The servo has 2 parts to it... The 2nd apply piston and the 4th apply piston. There could be a problem with the Teflon ring that seals the piston to the case bore. This IS NOT a high failure area, though.
Have you scanned the car to check for codes? I would suggest running a data check on it to see if it's commanding 2nd gear.
What condition is the fluid in? Is it dark or does it smell burnt?
Are you sure you're feeling 4th gear and not just lock up?

Yes, its definitely going into 4th gear, because if i manually shift from overdrive while going down the highway, it downshifts and goes from 1700-1900 at 55mph to over 2k. I've tried to have it checked for codes, but the scanner couldn't read them because it is that weird in-between year that uses an obd-1 computer with an obd2 plug.. and yes, when this first started, i dropped the pan and it was clean, i replaced the filter, the fluid looked very nice.. nothing seemed wrong.. the fluid is still a good color and doesn't smell burnt. when this first started, my speedometer was acting up, but now it seems to read fine..

Link to free 94/95 scan/data logging software download in a "sticky" on the "Computer Diagnostics....." forum.

Or use an OBD-1 12-pin scanner and jumper the pins as shown on Shoebox's site.

Probably not, since it is for OBD-II.

People make OBD-I cables for the 16 pin DLC.
