4l60e-th400

Ok wat exactly is needed for the swap? Goin from my 4L60E to a TH400 with a brake. Is there a particular shell I should look for or any old 400 should be fine? Driveshaft? will it just bolt up tothe block? Any info basically would be appreciated

Ok, first make sure you need the T400 (500+hp). If so, the trans will bolt to the engine and you will need a Looker trans tube. The 4" tail shaft will require a longer drive shaft (28 spline 1350 yoke) and the 9" tail shaft will require a shorter drive shaft (by about 2 3/4") and (32 spline 1350 yoke). Both will require heavy mods to the crossmember (if you can weld, this is no problem). Ther is plenty of clearence for the t400 under the car.

If you need pics, e-mail me and I will crawl under my car and take some photos and e-mail them to you.

Pick out the a late case around 1987 & up, it will have the tabs for the 4wd on the bell housing area, but not drilled to except the aluminum torque converter cover. This case is thicker all the way through. When building this unit "do not" eliminate the waved steel in the intermediate clutch pack, and use the TF727 .106" snap ring for the intermediate setup. This will prevent the case lugs from breaking. This should give you an idea where to start. Let me know if you need something?
