700r4 manual valve body.

700r4 manual valve body.
K, got some trash in my transmission after a nice hard ride, it wont downshift in overdrive normaly from 2-1 and it does not go into 3rd or 4th, still very strong in 1-2 meaning it holds well, so those clutches are in good shape, I could coax it into 3 and 4 after freeing up the TV by pulling the cable and letting it go to clear it out alittle, it worked for a couple of days, still not right but it did go into 3 and 4, until yesterday.
I thought I had a stuck shift valve or Throttle valve, dropped the pan and took alook, removed and replaced the TV I had another on hand. the old one was not smooth in its operation, I did exorcise the shift valve, is it supposed to spring back smartly or does it just "float" in its bore, cause right now its just floating. after all of that and new fluid, it does not shift still. I will remove the Valve body and pull it appart to clean it, I hope there is some trash or something holding a valve open or stuck that I can clean out. I found 2 small chunks of metal in the pan, size of a half grain of rice.
1. what valve would have to be stuck or sticking to cause the simptems described above.
2. how can I tell without pulling the transmission (for a 3rd time after replacing the inputsprag and over run clutches last summer) if the 3-4 clutchpack is ok.
3. if I choose to just replace the valve body with a fully manual what else do I have to do to the transmission besides just slapping on a the new valve body.
Thanks.

Re: 700r4 manual valve body.
You have most likely lost the 3-4 clutch pack. If you see clutch material on the bottom of the pan away from the magnet, then most likely its history. The transmission will have to come out for this Update the 3-4 clutch pack with one of the 8 clutch Street/Strip setups. If you want a "full manual" valve body, use the modified TransGo 700-2-3 Performance Shift kit. This will give you the use of the TV cable to control line pressure and it will be easier on the front pump than the TCI's "constant pressure" full manual valve bodies. Stay away from TCI's full manual valve bodies. If you have any questions on this, let me know?
