ABS Ring with Eaton Units???

I started my rearend rebuild tonight and I'm going from a 3.23 ratio to a 3.73 along with changing out the Auburn Limited Slip for an Eaton locker. When I tried to put my ABS ring on to the new Eaton unit it was just shy of fitting onto the locker, I'm talking only thousands. We heated it and tried to tap it on but ended up cracking it. Just curious if I can run the car without this and what affects it will have with the car? Can I purchase a new one of these if need be? And why wouldn't it work with the new Eaton unit? Thanks for any/all help.

Well I've been reading and I guess that this is not just for ABS, but it is a speed sensor so I'll need a new one. Right? Will the speedo work without it?

But I'm still curious now why it wouldn't work with the new eaton unit? Is there a trick to making it fit right? I don't want to get a new one and have to wrestle with it again. Thanks.

Yes, it's a speed sensor, but NO it doesn't affect the speedo ..... that's still given its signal off the tail of the transmission.

I've never changed the reluctor ring on a carrier before, so I don't know how it's supposed to be done . Sorry .

I put an ABS ring on an Eaton aftermarket Posi unit.At first, the ring would not go on and I didn't want to destroy it in attempting to press it on.I used the 10 ring gear mounting holes of the carrier to slowly and evenly draw it on.I used 7/16-14 hex head bolts and nuts with flat washers.Flat washers on the fasteners at the ring gear mounting surface to prevent marring that surface and flat washers(of large enough washer OD to contact the ABS ring) at where the normal ring gear bolt heads would be and by tightening the fasteners slowly and evenly, the ABS ring walked right on.

^ ^ Cool . Makes sense. Now, how do you get the original OFF without breaking it?!?

I just used a plastic hammer and tapped it off the Auburn. Wasn't so lucky with tapping it onto the Eaton though.

they 'walk' off fairly easy with the plastic hammer, just do it evenly around or it will bind.
