Anybody rebuild your own t56? Or reverse synchro/fork replacement?

Ok, I've had this issue for awhile but I've been avoiding it till I had time to fix it. I bought a rebuilt t56 from a guy that has a hard time being shifted into reverse. I dont have my lockout solenoid hooked up but I dont think that is the issue because I read about ppl just pushing past it and reverse working fine. Well my car likes to clunk in and out of reverse and grind a lot. I know its synchronized, so I think it may be either that or a bent reverse shift fork. Anyone out there have an issue like this? I'd like to comfirm what it is before I take it apart, so I only have to take it apart once to fix it. Again, when I put the car in reverse I have to let the clutch out a little and it will "cluck" rather loudly into reverse and I have to hold the shifter in reverse or it will pop out.

The Reverse Synchro is an assembly I believe not just 1 thing, and you need to hook the lockout solenoid up. Start there and work your way through things.

I think your problem is the reverse syncro is worn. You can remove the syncro and turn it around if that is the problem. The reverse syncro only meshes with reverse gear on one side so the other side doesn't get any wear. You can download the t-56 manual from the Tremic website. It is not hard to do and only requires removal of the rear of the transmission case.

Hooking up the reverse lockout solenoid will make it eaiser to move the shift lever to reverse but won't affect the problem you are having. If you want it to work like a stock t-56 car you will have to add a wire to the computer on your 94.

Cool

I had this similar problem with my 94 Z28. When i took my old clutch out to replace i wanted to see what was wrong with my T56 because it always grinded going into 3rd gear and it wouldnt stay in reverse all that great, i wanted to make sure it was the synchros so i took it to a shop. It turned out i needed a new 3rd gear, 3-4 synchro, shift fork and reverse gear and synchro. I bought all the parts and rebuild kit for 900$ and me and my dad put it all together. We got it all together finally, put it in the car and tried it. every gear worked great but when i wanted to go in reverse, it just wouldnt, so i dont know what is wrong. It just wont go at all. Pisses me off. but your problem would be the reverse synchro i believe.
