best clutch for the money

Curious what you guys would consider the best clutch for the money. The motor I have is a 383 with big solid roller and afr 227 and I need to get a clutch that will handle a decent amount of power. Besides a twin disc what would you guys recommend. Spec, centerforce, etc. And the best place to pick one up.

Honestly, I would recommend the McLeod Street Twin. Here's why:

Most single disc clutches are only said to be good up to about 400 RWHP. With your motor combo, you should be easily surpassing that. The spec clutches don't seem to do too well in LT1 cars, and with pretty much any of the others, you run the risk of smoking through it real quick if you're going to drive that beast hard and rev high.

IMO, street twin is the way to go. Just make sure you have the driveline to back it up. It's known to grenade anything behind it.

I would really like to get a street twin, but I don't have that much cabbage at this time. Has anyone used a spec stage 3 disc or any other kind of high performance disc with an lt4 pressure plate with any success? I have a brand new pressure plate but I just need a good disc. Doesn't vaelo make everybody's pressure plate, spec, centerforce etc? Thanks for your help.

Yeah... that's what I thought too. However, I bought one clutch for around $600... didn't last. Bought another for $600... didn't last. Stock one lasted about 70,000 miles so it's not that I can't drive a stick So, I spent total over $1200 in a short period of time (actually put in three clutches in about a years time) trying not to spend $1000 on the McLeod. Hmph. Basically, I've got a $600 clutch for over $1200 when I could have had a $1000 clutch for $1000

I'll move this over to the Drivetrain forum...

How do you like your McLeod single disk clutch? How many miles do you have on it?
