I was driving along in my 95 z... 6-spd t-56 when i shifted to second and went around a corner...mashed the gas a tid bit and tires spun a tad ...then all of a sudden it was like it popped out of gear and just reved up ...i looked down at the shifter and it was still in 2nd gear but the only thing moving was my rpm's. it was like i was in neutral. I pulled over and you can hear something rattlin around down where the clutch/transmission is... i dont know which one it is though... It wont move in any gear...and i DO have clutch pressure. Did I break my clutch? or my transmission?

 

Don't rule out your rear end. Maybe you broke something back there. You can always put it in gear and have someone look under the car as you give it some gas. If your driveshaft is spinning but your not going anyware, your rearend is probably broke. Don't be fooled by driveline noises. Something that sounds like it's right under your shifter can be coming from the rear too. Just hope you didn't break an input or output shaft on your tranny. Wouldn't think that could happen that easy. The rear I could believe though. Just a suggestion. Let us know how it turns out.

well you could have broken off the clutch disc. Dont run the car anymore until you get it figured out. You might end up breaking something else and end up spending alot more.

 

The same thing happened to me, i have a 97 Z28 6 speed, i stripped all the teeth of of second gear on my car, it could be that. it cost like $700 for just the parts. id check your tranny.

 

i have my bets on that^^ i did the same thing. the clutch pedal felt fine but i was stuck in second gear after i was spinning in the rain.

 

When it broke did you try all the other gears? My car did the same thing and it was my clutch. For my car though once I took it out of the gear it was stuck in it would NOT go back into any sort of gear. If you go to my cardomain the picture of what happened to my clutch is on the 4th page. If you wanted to mod your car you have a great reason to get a nice Spec clutch. Good luck dude.

Edit: BTW when my clutch went my pedal still felt perfect too.

 

He said it won't move in any gear. That tells me his clutch should be ok cause he would have to engage the clutch to get it into each gear assuming he's putting it in gear and trying to move with the car running. If he did strip out a gear, it would still move in other gears.

 

Well that depends, he could have blown his clutch altogether. The general rule of thumb I was taught is that if its all gears its usually clutch. If its only one gear you may be looking at a tranny problem. From what I am understanding I would say clutch right now.

 

It sounds like your clutch, usually only one gear goes, although it could still be the transmission. If your speedo is going up while you're sitting there then it would have to be a problem in the rear end...
