Different size Hub on rear of my car

Hey guys
I recently bought some stocker rims from an 2000 Trans Am 16x8 and when the tire shop went to put them on , the front rims went right on, but the rear wheels wouldnt fit. The Hub was too large. They had to grind down the inside of the wheel to make it fit over the Hub. What could that be caused from? Is it possible I have a different axle or something on the car? What type of Fbody has a larger rear hub? Difference was only about 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch...

Thanks

EDIT: My car is a 95 Formula with 323 gears..

Re: Different size Hub on rear of my car

Completely "normal". A result of GM's "parts bin" approach to designing new car models to use bits an pieces of earlier models.

Up until the late 96 or early 97 model years, the 4th Gen F-Bodys have a rear hub diameter that is about 0.03" larger than the front hubs. The problem was eventually eliminated. If you try and put "late" model wheel on an "early" model, you get exactly the problem you had.

rear 2005 c5 crvette rims dont fit

i have a 95 chev z28 conv. i have tried to put c5 corvette rims on the car and the front went on no problem. the rear did not so i have taken the rear tires to wpg wheel to have them use a lathe to open up the centre hub on the rims. i measured the rear hubs on the car to be 70.84mm .what i am wondering is what do gm specs say the rear hub diameter should be for this yr of camaro thx tommybad

A few minutes per wheel with a Dremel or even a half-round file will take care of it. No reason to go to any extravagant expense.

Yes, this. The wheels are lug centric anyway so having the hub the perfect size really doesnt make any difference.

I ground mine with a dremel as well. Worked great, cost nothing. Eric L
