Gear Install gone bad! Need help ASAP!

Gear Install gone bad! Need help ASAP!
Ok, I purchased the complete ractech install kit and Motive 3.73's. My car, 94 A4 with 2.73s.
So I went to put the gears in today and all the measurements are perfect except for the backlash. Nothing will make it sit right. The carrier keeps hitting the rear so it wont go over enough. Do I need anything else to install these gears?
please help!
