Jiffy Lube Trans Service
I saw an ad for jiffy lube T tech transmission fluid change for 49.99, and when I called they told me they have some machine that sucks all the fluid out and then pumps in new fluid. But I thought you had to drop the pan. Does anyone know anything about this? It sounds good, but I dont wanna get rippped off either.

Sounds like they are going to leave the old tranny filter alone, or charge you more to replace it with a new one? Unfamiliar with their procedure. Would want a new filter in there if they put new fluid in. At least my opinion.
Best of luck.

Re: Jiffy Lube Trans Service
The T-tech trans. service is a rather common procedure. It supposedly sends pressurized fluid through the trans. removing sludge deposits and all of that good stuff and replacing the old fluid with new. But then what is the point of running new fluid through an old dirty filter with who knows how many miles.

The screen/filter are the same thing. But you would definately want a new filter. Would be like leaving the old oil filter on to clean the new oil. I had it done and recommend it to anyone with an auto.

Re: Jiffy Lube Trans Service
There's a difference between an actual flush and a "fluid change". Flushing the unit is when you hook up a machine inline with your trans lines. Usually at the cooler. There's a cleaner you put in the trans and let it run for a while. Then you disconnect 1 line, hook it to your in or out line from the machine, then hook up the other side (usually in the cooler) to the other line on the machine. As you run the car, the transmission pumps fluid out into the recovery tank and the machine replaces it at the same rate. Some say it cleans the filter, but I disagree. The fluid only flows 1 way thru the trans filter, not backwards.
Then there's a "fluid change". They stick a long plastic tube down thru the dipstick tube and suck all the fluid out of the pan. Usually about 4 or 5 qts. Then they replace the fluid extracted with fresh fluid. Whether or not there's an additive put in, I don't know.

no filter is changed or cleaned. just your tranny pumps the old fluid out and is replaced by new fluid.
to my knowledge they dont suck anything out through any dipstick tube. they just drain it out (through the drain plug) and pump new fluid in through the fill plug.

If I remember, I'll call tomorrow. I know I remember some outfit using a tube to go into the dipstick tube for either trans service or oil changes.

Re: Jiffy Lube Trans Service
think about it guys, get the flush with a machine regardless if they replace the filter or not, if you drop the pan and get rid of the 5 or 6 qts that are in the pan and change the filter, you know whats gonna really happen??? in a whole transmission theres about 12 or 13 qts. so all the other 6 or 7 that doesnt get drained (which is dirty) is just gonna mix with the 5 qts of new fluid, so your not much better than you was. but if you flush it out with the machine, then you get all of you fluid new and yeas it does clean some of the filter, maybe not as good as new but still a little, the flush is much more efficient that a pan drop by all means and if the price is $49 then thats a miracle bc 12 qts would be around that price by itself (depends on what brand)
