Question rear tranny seal - viper spec

i just put my new viper spec tranny in from Rockland Standard Gear over the past couple days. shifts like a dream, but noticed a leak coming from the rear seal on the tailshaft housing where the driveshaft slip yoke goes in. i'm assuming the seal is damaged, and i know how to replace it, but the problem lies in finding the correct seal. local parts stores have tranny seals for the T-56, but the inside diameter is made for a stock driveshaft slip yoke, and not the larger viper slip yoke. so i went to autozone today and asked for the seal for a 97 dodge viper, took it home and it fit perfectly around the slip yoke, but did not fit in the tailshaft housing. it's a little larger in diameter than the t-56 tailshaft housing in my firebird. any idea where to find a seal that accomodates the tailshaft housing size and the viper slip yoke size???

On the original seal, is there a part number??? Most are embedded in the rubber part...

If not, then some part stores, like Carquest, probably not AutoZone, has calipers to measure the diameter...

Did you put in a new driveshaft, too? My dana spicer yokes with a pin-sized hole through the center, and it leaked past the splines and through the tiny hole until I plugged it with a dab of silicone. Now mine mostly leaked when it was up on ramps, the rest of the time I think the fluid level was too low to come out while driving or parked, but it always had a drip there.

i have a custom chromoly 3" driveshaft with the 30-spline viper yoke on it...never had a leak there with my stock t-56 and the same driveshaft with a stock yoke on it

its more than a couple drips though...left the car sit in the street in front of a friends house for 2 days and there was a pretty big wet spot directly underneath

Here's an idea. Go old school, get off the internet and call the builder and ask what the seal number is. I'm pretty sure that he'll know what's in there.

I have been emailing the builder back and forth, and they are being very helpful and sending me another seal. They wouldnt tell me which one would fit though. Guess I'll just get the micrometer out and compare the one they send me to they two that I have.
