Stock 4L60E durability?
Okay, so supposedly my car was built special with 440 HP Performance Pac out of SLP (According to the last owner. Though even if it isn't I got it at a steal of $13,500, and in really good shape.) as 1 of 681. Now I'm not sure if this is true or not, (If there's a vin code, throw it out there) but if I'm going to be taking it out on the track this season or changing the shift points, I can't afford to rule it out.
So my question to you guys out there is IF my car really is that powerful, will it eat my transmission? I'm not 100% on what a stock 4L60E will take, so I'm wondering if I have to go out and get an upgrade for it before I go and race. If so, mind pointing me in the right direction?

Some live some don't. I installed a TransGo valve body kit in mine with my high stall speed converter and it lasted 7 years of drag racing then it started slipping 3rd a little.
Others don't live out the 1st year.

Interesting.
Also is there a right/wrong way to setup the shift points? My buddy who owns the tuner for cars with LS1/LS6 changed the shift points on his '04 GTO. The car is faster now, but he also said something about how the shifts themselves take less time. Is this easier on the car like he thinks, or is this a dangerous move and should not be repeated when I bring my car out for the season?

I personally haven't had much luck with a few 4l60Es that I've had which is why I converted to a t56 (ironically still having issues lol), if for what ever reason you do have 440hp I wouldn't think a 4l60e would hold too long. As far as shift points its all based off of your power band which is dictated largely by cam and heads etc.

My old car blew the 4L60E at about 70k and the car was pretty much stock. I just blew the 4L60E in my '97 with 16,000 original miles. Car has been modified from 9,000 on, I imagine my SS3600 Stall doesn't help too much.

And even if my car isn't 440 hp I know for sure I have a set of higher end SLP headers, straight dual exhausts with no cats, (still has mufflers for back pressure, of course) and a K&N filter. So all of that built up from regular 325 hp should make it about 370-low 400s, and slight improvement over whatever parts made it 440 hp if it had this 'special package' that I'm not even sure exists.
Yes, I'm aware I'm repeating myself. More or less bumping the thread.

Thanks for telling me this, this has just bugged the crap out of me since I got the car, and I didn't know they did verification. And the answer is no, mine is a run off the mill SS. While I'm disappointed I don't have a real collectors piece, at least I won't feel guilty driving it, as well as knowing it won't totally eat my transmission. Thanks for all the help guys.
