transmission problems (I know this is probably getting old)
I'm having problems with a 4l60e (who isn't?) in an 02 trans am it doesn't seem to want to go into second gear and will even over rev the engine it's hard to find a pattern other than those 2 things but all in all it's just belligerent about shifting. i saw somewhere were there was a bulletin in gm about the valvebodies in 4l60es not being right. the car's only got 43k on it and though it's not out of the question i would shudder to think that the whole transmission needs rebuilding. has anyone else heard about this valve body issue or experienced similar problems. any help is appreciated
thanks

I had the same thing on my 95Z. My 2nd gear would just be lost and rev. out of control. I found out I lost that gear and the passing gear. I had to rebuild an it was around 1800 for one. I would say go to your local tranny shop and have them do a test to see if anything is broken.

More than likely your 2-4 band is cooked. What kind of condition is the fluid in? Does it attempt any upshift at all?
As far as valve body problems...tHE BIGGEST PROBLEM gm HAS had with 4l60E valve bodies is the dreaded 1870 code, which is a worn TCC regulator valve bore. This is easily fixed, though...And won't cause a problem like you're having.
There's a slight chance that it may be a shift solenoid. Are you showing any "check engine" lights?
"Who isn't having problems with their 4L60E's?" That's an easy question to answer.... Customers who have had their transmissions built by us.

Re: transmission problems (I know this is probably getting old)
i've had the fluid changed but not the filter and it still looks good, not burnt, there are no leaks, it's not throwing any codes (engine or transmission) the only transmission shop that's rebuild a 4l60e and not slipped (that i've heard of) around here took a quick once over on it and mentioned the bands being burned. Thank you for responding that was my first post
