transmission service help
Hey guys,
this is slightly off topic but need advice. I have a 97 Ford Taurus, 3.0 dohc. It has 117K but always driven very nicely and serviced as needed.
Since summer time is coming, good preventative maintenance would be to service the trans.
Would there be any need to flush the lines, no contaminants could get in right?
The two services, either or that shops offer is to flush the fluid therefore leaving the old filter in there. They claim this gets out the debris in the filter to but I thought changing the filter is priority.
The other option is to drop the pan, change the gasket, filter and just fill back up the fluid as necessary.
I would assume changing the filter is priority but cleaning the lines and ALL the fluid be important as well.
Any ideas? The average cost is about $100 which is not the issue.
Thanks
Daniel

Re: transmission service help
well first, this is LT1 tech, so this will get moved
first, has the filter ever been changed? if it was changed at the last scheduled service , I would say a flush would be fine, however, if you have no clue when it was done last, I say get it flushed, then change the filter yourself(after the flush, so anything loosened up by the flush will be in the OLD filter)

Re: transmission service help
Please don't post problems like this in LT1 Tech.... its about the busiest forum here, and it forces the valid posts off the bottom of the page faster.
