transmission smoked?

I was backing out of my brothers driveway last night and accidentally threw the transmission into drive. It jerked a little, but not too violently. I drove home and noticed it was a little weird. Well, I left for work this morning and something is wrong. 1st gear seems really weird, it revs to about 1500 before it moves. 2nd and 3rd appear to fine. It wont shift out of 3rd into 4th unless I'm going down a hill and theres hardly any load on the transmission. Once I get to the bottom of the hill and have to press the gas a little hard it downshifts into 3rd. Had to get on the freeway today and it was pulling 3K at 65.

Is my transmission shot?

Check your transmission fluid level... if the level is low the car won't move forward under its own power very easily.

Okay, got a little more information.
Checked the fluid and it was low. Added about a quart and a half.
After transmission is in park for awhile, it shifts into 1st when put into Drive. Goes okay, than shifts really hard into 2nd. After it shifts to 2nd, it doesnt go back to first even if I put the shifter into 1st.
Only getting 2nd and 3rd. As soon as I let off the gas going down a hill or something, the RPMs drop to 1K or so which isnt right if it was shifting into 4th. My brother said its almost like its slipping when the gas is let off.
He thinks its not a big problem, maybe the filter got clogged or something because the fluid was so low. But hes not sure.
Thoughts?

How many miles are on the transmission. I would try a transmission flush and filter change first and see what happens after that.

Well after reading that it happened after you slipped it into drive while you were still moving backwards I would think it is damaged somehow. No one will really be able diagnose a transmission issue over the net. You're best bet is to have a transmission shop look at it.

Sounds like the forward piston, in the input drum is cracked.

I'm going to change the filter tomorrow and change the fluid.
Could it be something to do with the TPS sensor or an internal solenoid?
I'm not quite sure how this stuff works, I'm just going on suggestions I got from a few people today.

sounds internal and a filter is probably not going to fix it, don't be afraid to take it to a good shop to check it out. it should be less than a $100. when they tell you what is wrong make sure they explain it very good. not just you need a trans. they should tell you that it needs to be dissasembled to further diagnose. and make sure they have a good reputation. good time for a converter upgrade
