U-joint's

U-joint's
I bought a LS1 aluminum driveshaft, and went to put new U-joints in it, and I noticed there is no place to put the snap rings. How are the u-joints held into the driveshaft? It seems like even though they are pressed in, they would just slide right out while going down the road. If anybody knows, please give some input. I know many people have done this to their aluminum driveshafts. Also, I bought u-joints for a 96 T/A instead of a LS1 year, are the u-joints any different?

Re: U-joint's
do a search, but i'll tell you what happened to mine. it's a bitch to change U-joints on the LS1 aluminum driveshaft, it involved melting some nylon pin if i remember correctly. i didn't do the work, but that's what they told me.
then i found out it was off-balance and had to find a shop that could balance a ds and weld on alum weights. even then, i still get some small vibe over 85-90.
so my advice is, if the U-joints look ok and within tolerance, don't change them

Re: U-joint's
I helped a buddy put a new 12 bolt in, came with a larger U joint - 1350? I think. Anyway, after messing with it for about an hour trying to get the stock one out even with applying heat, we just took it to the local chevy dealer and had them press the new one in.

Re: U-joint's
Yeah, I have a press, but both u-joints are shot on it. I am just worried about their being no place for the snap rings, I don't know how the u-joints are being held in.
