Cats gutted-out

What if I gut the cats out? Are there code/OBC problems? Can it still pass smog in the sunshine state? Is there any significant performance change:confused

Ive got a 96 so ive got 2 cats and i gutted the one on the driver side and took the other off. It made the exhaust alot louder and the advantage is the exhaust flows is less restricted. I really doubt that it would pass an emissions test. I switched my computer to OBDI so I didnt have any trouble codes, but yours being a 2000 you would either have to get the rear O2's tuned out or get some dummy O2's

You'll definitely pop a code. For the hassle involved in tuning or buying sims, its not worth the minimal or no gains involved IMO.

No, you will not pass tail pipe emissions with gutted cats in CA.

not worth destroying perfectly good cats (assuming they are) for the 5hp gain.

get an orp if nothing else...save the stock unit for test-time

oh yeah....

you'll pop the SES code fr the rear o2 sensors, but they have NO affect on the running condition of the engine.
