Computer changes for gutted cats on '96 Z28
Hey! I'm new on the site, but it looks great.
I am thinking about gutting my cats, but I know the 96 models have O2 sensors post-cat. I have to tune the computer to not recognize them, but I don't have the slightest clue how to do that or who to take it to. Is there a kit or something so I could do it myself?
Would love some help, thanks!!

You would have to buy OBD-II tuning software, either LT1_Edit or the JET DST (OBD-II version of TunerCats). Fairly expensive. Any mail-order tuner can do it for you. Typical sources are madZ28, pcmforless or trifecta (a valued site sponsor).

The alternative would be to buy a pair of O2 "sims" and plug them into the harness connectors for the after-cat sensors.

Do the O2 "sims" cost a whole lot?
All the vid's of gutted cat Camaros I've seen have been very loud, which is great, but other than a visual inspection and smog check (which I have taken care of), is there anything else I need worry about?

No problems from running without cats, other than the guy in the car behind you having to breathe it and know you don't have cats.
Look on ebay for "sims". I have no idea how much they cost. Because they are illegal, they may be getting harder to find. Casper Electronics made them for many years, but the EPA stopped them and they were fined $70,000.
"Gutting" the cats is really pointless, unless you have some reason to run leaded fuel. They do not eat up much HP at all. I built an 800HP nitrous LT1, and had it set up to run dual 3" CarSound cats on the street, with flanges on the cats so I could drop them out and insert Borla XR1 mufflers when I went to the track and planned to use leaded fuel for the 300-shot.
