Want to add my cutut and upgrade exhaust.
I have Pacesetter mids and a 3" high flow cat. I want to add the 3" cutout i bought and have the electric opener also. I have the magnaflow muffler and want the most power gains and sound is important but distance 2nd to the performance gains. What should i do from the cat back and what brand or type is best? I think they make complete kits but i have no idea where to start. Thanks in advance

I have a Magnaflow catback, and a 3" cutout. The magnaflow has a quiet idle, but gets loud at WOT. The cutout is loud no matter what. Some people have seen small gains with an open cutout as opposed to a catback.

Its a stretch but i was told with the cut out you lose low end torque but really feel it up top. What about running a cut out closed for the first part of the race and open it once you reach the 1/8 mile mark?

you wont lose power with the cutout.
and i don't think you could open a cutout fast enough to benefit from trying to do it mid-track.
stick the cutout on the magnaflow...if you really want to take advantage of power...put it before the cat.

If i use an electric cutout would i even need to change the muffler? I am thinking if the 3" line to the cutout would be all that is needed for max flow during racing. The muffler shop has the 3" pipe for $125 installed and maybe i'll use the Flowmaster again. Has anyone used this method? I think you can tune your exhaust for the best sound with the cutout somewhere between open and closed. Does this cause exhaust issues in the car to leave it like 15% open if mounted over the rear axle?

it takes ~15 seconds for my cutout to open from being full closed, so i would just leave it open at the track.
As far as it being partially open, i would leave it either fully open or fully closed. anywhere in between and it sounds like you have an exhaust leak.
I have Flowmaster mufflers that the previous owner had installed and i just leave my cut out fully open 95% of the time.
