1000+ rwhp

I am looking at a twin turbo rear mount system through STS. The kit will be designed by Rick Squires owner of STS. I will be able to push the 1000+ RWHP mark and am trying to get some thoughts. Here is what the engine will be made up of. The bottom end of the engine will be 4 bolt billet mains, callies dragonslayer or magnum crank, oliver rods, ross, diamond or cp Pistons all arp bolts & studs. The top end of the engine will be le3 heads, le intake & le custom cam, shaft rockers and 58mm electronic TB all arp bolts and studs. I will be going with efi connection's 24x kit. Suspension will be a complete overhaul, everything will be replaced and new things added. I will be doing a t56 swap and a s60 12 bolt for the rear. So I guess now I would like some feedback, let me know what parts I missed or may need etc. etc.

Forget the 1000+ hp. Even though it will be possible on this setup I do not feel the whole build should be based around that number. The car is mostly a show/street somewhat daily driver and even if I have 1000 hp the car will never hook up properly to use that on the street. So I will go with the horsepower that I feel will be best for the way I want to drive.

Thanks for the comment. Here is the fuel system I am planning. A single -10an line w/ inline aeromotive filter from the pump/s (Have not decided whether I want to go dual walbro's in tank or a big single weldon) and a -10an return line to a aeromotive a1000 fpr and -6an back to tank w/ inline aeromotive filter. Injectors will be 95 to 120lb/h and I wanted to modify the rails like this http://www.gmhightechperformance.com.../photo_09.html but that is not going to work on the stock manifold.

A 6an return will not be large enough. You will need an 8an. I’d Call Aeromotive and go with their recommendations.

Ps. more than 1000 at the motor with out a half fill and the touch of jesus the motor will not survive. It will twist like a rag.

How much of this do you already have? I hope you know you listed off prol $15,000 worth of parts there....and thats just a ballpark estimate- in all actuality prol closer to the $20,000 mark.

Not trying to sound glum but lots of people start off with huge goals in mind without really knowing how much it will all cost in the end. More props to you if you indeed have the ability to make it happen.

As far as parts go- the list is almost endless as to the things you will need. With everything you have listed can really only touch on the big things- motor, fuel, trans, drivetrain, suspension. All of which you have listed what you have in mind. As the project progresses you will figure out what you need to do in order to complete the project-

Since it sounds like from your post this is in the planning stage with everything I honestly think your best bet would be to take an area and work on that first and get it completed. i.e.- get your turbo system all laid out and bugs worked out. Then build your motor/trans combination, drivetrain to follow with suspension etc...

Trying to undertake all of these things at the same time unless you are experienced in what you will need you will probably end up with you pulling your hair out trying to complete everything at once. Again, not trying to sound like a jerk- just words of advice from someone who went down your road a few years ago.

-6an should be plenty on the return. I will check with Rick and see what he is running for his return line. It will be more than 1000 on the motor if I choose to go that high. I will most likely stay closer to 800 rwhp. Thanks for commenting.

This is the planning stage but alot of things are getting put into action. I talked to Rick owner of STS for about a half hour today about the turbo setup. The kit will be custom designed by him since STS does not sell a twin turbo kit for f-body's. I also talked to Phil at Advanced Induction for close to an hour setting up part's for the top end of the car and he is going to talk to Karl at Ellwein Engines about putting it all together. You do not sound glum or like a jerk I am fully aware of the cost and it will be closer to $40,000 when all is said and done. So far I am looking at $15,000 for the complete engine, $7,000 for the turbo setup, $10,000 in drivetrain parts and $3,000 for the efi connection kit. This build will start this winter. Thanks for the concern and I know it will be a process.

Ok- it def sounds like a nice project and will be lots of fun to do-

Did you contact "RealQuick" from this forum to see what he can offer you? I nice slick underhood twin turbo setup has a lot of show factor since you did mention that was one of your goals for the car. Not to mention having all your stuff under the hood will eliminate some of the headache of running both hot and cold pipes to the back of the car, and getting the oiling system taken care of as well...Just another idea for you to consider-

Thanks for the reference Procharged94Lt1!

NightShadeZ28 - Any details on the turbo setup. I would pay attention to the size turbos + M6 tranny. Any idea what turbos he suggests?

No Prob- you helped me with some questions before but unfortunately the money found its way to house priorities before it trickled down to the car. I do hope to do business with you at some point though...I am always impressed with the work you do and the things you engineer up.

If you're going to spend that much money on a kit, why not go with a front mounted kit? (And I'll step up as another happy 'RealQuick' customer) I'd rather have a giant single over two smaller turbos, but for car shows, both have their appeal in different areas.

Not to mention you could get a giant (or two) polished turbonetics units and be able to show them off to the crowds where a rear mount system would hide them - and everyone loves shiny turbochargers.

Have you thought about the cooling package yet? If you went with a larger vertical radiator and re-did the front subframe, it would conveniently free up a lot of space under the hood as well.

Thanks guys for the input. I like how the STS kit/s keeps the heat from the turbos out of the engine bay which allows for cooler air intake and oil. I also like how it reduces turbo temps and the need for a turbo timer. I was also under the assumption that this kit will decrease turbo lag. And I really like how it hides the turbo which gets people wondering where the hell the noise is/was coming from. And the way and area I am installing my turbos they will not be noticed at all. I will give details if you would like just let me know.

It will be a twin 67mm or larger kit with a fmic (I have not decided on the intercooler yet or how I will install it). I am trying to figure out a M6 that will hold 1000+hp (I don't know much about manuals, and it will be a swap), so if you got some suggestions on anything please let me know.

I am interested on the cooling system you are talking about. Any pics. I understand what you are saying just never saw it on a f-body. And I may go with a big single still yet. I will have to see the room I have.

I agree that in order to make 1000rwhp, you will need atleast twin 67mm turbos... probably 70mm would be best. Spool will probably be an issue, spool is an issue on front mount TT with big T4 turbos.

In all honesty, I wouldn't get more than twin 60mm P trim turbos if you want it to perform and spool fast on the street. I would expect those turbos to be done @ 800rwhp or so though.

Front mounts give you more options, but I am not in here to talk you out of the rearmounts. I'll offer advice as you post more info. Goodluck!
