8lb's to much for stock LT1?

8lb's to much for stock LT1?
Thinking of getting a procharger for my LT1.
I am getting ready to install a hotcam and mid length headers.
Is 8lb's of boost going to be to much for the car to handle? It will be an intercooled setup "procharger" And probably wont get ran hard very often.
With the cams/Sc/headers and 8lb's how much power would I be pushing?
Think the stock LT1 will handle it? My past LT1's held up for a long time and I have a few friends that have been running 175 shots thrue stock LT1's for quite some time and they are still running pretty good!
Im thinking if I put the blower on there as long as I dont drive it to hard it should last me a while.
BTW, the milage on the car is around 110,000.

You'd be really pushing it. If you were to give it a conservative tune you may be able to run 8 psi.
I broke a compression ring on my #1 piston while running 6 psi. Engine only had about 50,000 miles on it at that time. My tune had a few degrees of timing taken out of it and I was using an FMU.

Did you beat the car regularly? How many miles was the Procharger actually on the engine before it blew?
Im not gonna drive this car everyday so Im thinking if it will at least last me a year I should be in good shape. After a year and a half or so Im gonna build a forged LT1 that can withstand a crazy amount of boost...

Re: 8lb's to much for stock LT1?
I drove mine for 2 years with 9 lbs on it, I seen up to 10 lbs on the gage when I took it up to around 6800 RPM, and thats the reason mine blow, the LT4 springs couldnt handle the RPMs and I got valve float braking a retainer droping a valve, I could have just did a valve job and put it all back together but I decided to build a motor thats made for boost with lower compression so I didnt have to run some race gas to run full timing.

The more I read and hear the less I worry.
My z28 went 200k without a hitch being beat pretty good 99% of the time.
Thanks guys, Keep'em coming!!!

I have a 94 25th TA and my engine lasted 10k miles on 8psi before it started to puff smoke from the dip stick and breathers. The motor has 50k miles on it now. I will be putting one of Golens 383s in it with the procharger.

Thanks lethal 93ta for the advise. I may have to do that on the new combo. Do you have any picks of the set up? I still think I have lost the rings due to the boost used. I will look at it when I get it out.

it wasnt purty on that set up, when I put the new motor in this time Ill probably use all braided line.

I see you still have the fmu. I had Bryan from pcmforless tune around mine and it really helped the power and drivability. My new combo will be 60lb injectors and 12 psi hopefully. Thanks for the pics. I will be in touch when I get my new motor in if that is ok.

its just basic, whne your pushing oil out of the breathers and dip stick you have to much crank case pressure and you have to get rid of it, thats about the only way to do it, the stock rings will have some blowby and thats what happens if you dont vent everything.
