Can you mount a turbo vertically?

Can you mount a turbo vertically with the air intake facing directly upwards?

I'm just wondering about oiling/drainback since the oil inlet and drain will be on either side of the center section rather than on the top and bottom.

I dont see it being that big of a problem....think about it. The oil is being pressurized into the center section so that isn't a problem. Just try and rotate the center section so that it has somewhat of an angle going down and then just use like a 150* fitting for the drain.

The only thing that kinda makes me think about this being weird is how the header would be made. Thats a big turn to make a turbo mount vertically

Sorry, but not a chance in hell. Turbos use a gravity drain, and dont really have "seals" like you would think of. It needs to be vertical, at no more than a 15* angle.

there is always a chance...he could use a scavenger pump if he wanted too

i say give it a shot and use a clear type return hose and see how the oil is flowing

A pump would be great if the turbo was just lower than the oil pan. That's what one of the LS1 turbo kits use.

The problem here is that i'd say there is a 99% chance it won't work. Not to mention, it sounds like a custom job, so he's going to be doing a TON of work, and would suck the big one if it doesn't work.

Your absolutely right. I need to know 100% if it will work or not, or the results will "suck the big one".
