disappointing numbers

disappointing numbers

Took the car to the dyno today. I didnt have my tunercats definition file, so I couldnt up my timing from 16 degrees, so I'm guessing that's a big problem. On 9 lbs the car made like 430, on 13 lbs it made 480. We spent 3 hours tuning it and couldn't get any more out of it just changing AFR. I figured it would make over 500 before I upped the timing, just hoping that the semi-large cam just wants a lot more timing It does drive very nicely on the streets however and feels strong.

work your timming up to 26 and that will scare you. what ingition are you running

You did 480 on your first trip to the dyno. I say congrats. These setups just seem to need a bit more love than the old big cam + nitrous setups we are used to. My first time out I thought it was a beast (ok it did feel a little sluggish) I made 390hp and 450tq on @ 10psi..... talk about dissapointed.

I bet 10 degrees adds a ton of power. When you say biggish cam, do you mean 305ish, 306, 847ish, bigger? Just curious what ballpark you are in. I can't make up my mind. This little 218/224 cam is serving its purpose, but I have thought about going bigger. I'm used to 847 and bigger cams on my na motors.

Ricci, you definintely need more timing! I'd say you could pick up another 100rwhp by going to 24 degrees or so. Boosted cars are very sensitive to timing. You'll get the numbers... dont worry!

It's a 230/240 on a 116, I figured 24 degrees or maybe a touch more would be where it's going to like it. I was hoping that it would make 600 or more on 13lbs. You think i'll have spark blow-out issues with increased timing? The plugs are TR6s at .32. I want to make sure everything is going to be good when I get back to the dyno.

Didnt see this before, it's stock coil, gm opti, msd digital 6, tr6s gapped at 32

Shouldn't change with timing, if anything it will be easier on the ignition because there is a little less pressure if it burns sooner. It will probably love more timing from the looks of it.

520/520, the race shop guy thinks it's getting spark blow out, going to go to the 20 gap instead of 32. I don't know if these are good or bad, I thought it should be making more power, but I dont know of another TFS "stock" head 385 on boost, have to search more.

Not bad Ricci. Do you have the graph? the kit will make alot more than that... as cast TFS heads arent that great flowise, and you could have some blowout.

So you picked up 40rwhp @ 13psi with more timing? if so, not bad.

Yea, I thought it would jump up a lot more, just got to keep at it. I was hoping to go high 5s, low 6s on that much boost. Their printer wasn't working, I can go back and get the graph another day, it's only 5 min from my apt.

Close the gaps and get it back on there. Don't forget too, unported TFS are just slightly better than factory LT1 heads. Ai or LE getting ahold of them will give big numbers.

No money for that, well i have the money, i'm just not going to spend it on that right now. Saving incase I can't get student loans the next 2 years i'm in school. Guess I'll just have to live with it I'm more about track times anyways, I need to hurry up and get back to the track I'm dying.

I'd fix the power issue first. Dont settle for 520rwhp. regap the plugs and see how it responds.
