Electric boost gauge reads boost at idle?

Electric boost gauge reads boost at idle?
Hooked up an Autometer electric boost gauge today & it reads 1-10 boost at idle! I hooked it to a vac.port on drv.side then changed it to the vac.line at the fuel pressure reg but it does the same thing. Gauge is a BOOST ONLY gauge, full sweep it doesn't read vacuum or at least not supposed to! Any ideas? It's on a '95z w/h a 8# Procharger I just installed. Also what fitting do you use for fuel press.gauge? I know the fuel line fitting is #4AN.Thanks for ANY help! Scott

Re: Electric boost gauge reads boost at idle?
Sounds like you hooked it up to a source that doesn't have power when the starter is engaged (like radio, etc)...
The electronic gauges need to calibrate themselves on power-on. Threfore, they need power as soon as the key is turned on, then retain power when the key is turned to the start position to start the car. If power is cut during starting, they'll calibrate with vacuum in the manifold and read off quite a bit.
Also, it helps to turn the key forward, let the gauge calibrate, then start the car.

Roadie,That could be it! I hooked the power wire into the radio fuse.I'll try that tomorrow,THANKS! Also what fuse would be best for that? should it have fire all the time even when the key is off?

Re: Electric boost gauge reads boost at idle?
I believe the PCM fuse is on all the time once the key is turned forward (I wired mine into one of the connectors behind the dash and soldered it in place). It's pretty easy to tell... Stick a tester on it to verify that it has power while the key is on. Then turn the key to start to see if the power stays there.
You can do this without the starter engaging. If you have a manual, just leave the clutch out. If you have an auto, pull up the parking brake and put it in gear -- the car won't let you start it while in gear.

Roadie,THANKS again for the good advice! I'll do that tomorrow I kept thinking it had to w/h a vacuum source that had a one way check valve in it but I KnEW the f.p. reg. didn't have one so it never occured to me about the power wire had did you think of it I would have pulled my hair out trying to figure it out!
