garret a/r 70 turbo
hey, i have a brand new garret turbo that is for a dt466 international diesel truck, the displacment is 8.3 L. Would this be good for a 383sbc build?
how much boost would this thing produce? the turbo says a/r 70 on the cold side housing and it dos'nt have a wastgate.

see if you can find some sort of identification on that thing. In general, most deisel turbos are not good for our cars because they spool so quickly and therefore the engine falls way out in front of the efficiency curve. However, I have seen a couple deisel compressor maps that could be okay for up to around 400-450 HP if you have way to cool off the intake charge (intercooler or alky inject)--a 383 would almost definately be too much displacement for a deisel turbo though.
If you're really interested, you need to find a compressor map, and to do that you need to I.D. the turbo. 0.7 AR is just the area ratio on the compressor...there should also be an AR on the turbine side and some sort of part number.
