going boosted for the first time. piston and ring ideas?

i have a 355, stock crank and rods are balanced, mains aligned and studded, head studs, ported heads, ported intake ect. i have forged pistons in there now along with rings gapped for nitrous. since im switching things up, what pistons and rings should i get. i want more of a dished piston. i dont want to go crazy on price but reasonable. also are 42# injecters big enuf for 12-14lbs of boost?

Re: going boosted for the first time. piston and ring ideas?

Sounds like a fun ride...
When I was researching my build (also a 355) I contacted a Diamond pistons vendor and gave him my desired compression ratio, my power adder(turbo pistons generally have thicker decks and lower ring packs), my crank specs, my rod specs, my head gasket and my heads chamber volume. The guy came back with the dish necessary. I had heard lots about Hellfire rings so I told the same guy about wanting them. He said that Hellfires were overkill for my desired output(600 rwhp at the time) and recommended Total Seal's AP series file to fit rings. I got those. My engine has seen just under 20psi and has been a daily driver since 2008 and I still drive it every day.

On your stock crank and rods... I would not think those would be a good idea since I think they're only safely rated to 500-550 crank HP. (I'm sure someone will post a rebuttal "FY dude!! I got 1,000 RWHP out of stock stuff!!! Lol...)

On the injectors, you really need to come up with a target HP and then go to one of the various "Injector sizing" sites. They will calculate the best fit injectors so that at Max HP, the duty cycle will be from 80 to 85%.

Here's one such calculator...

My goal is about 600 to the wheels, the calculater said 53lb injectors. Should I go a little bigger orr? As for pistons, I kinda just wana buy pistons and not talk on the phone with someone. I have a hard time doin that due to personal issues lol but thank you so much for your help

I would not worry about the stock crank but I would not use stock rods at that level.

I would build the motor for tomorrow not today. Put in quality parts that can be reused later so that you dont have to repurchase stuff.

stock rods and crank is asking for trouble. if cost is a concern look into a probe or scat kit with a 2618 alloy piston. also your going to need a good head and cam pkg also. our old setup put down 572 at 6100 with a 383 with afr 210's at 12.5 psi.

53's wont cut it. you need to go bigger. keep in mind you don't want to skimp on your fuel delivery because it wont last long if you run it lean.

Please site one example of someone overpowering a stock crank.

I also wouldn't be bragging about 570rwhp from aftermarket castings on 12.5psi seeing as the same power at the same rpm has been made with 190cc ported GM heads at 9psi NON-intercooled on 93 octane.

So no attempt to site a single example of a stock crank failing from power????

You running 8s with 570rwhp?

Just to back up my statements a bit.
