GT45 Masterpower turbo.. WOW this thing is HUGE..

Hey Guys,

Just got my upgraded turbo..went from a T70 to the GT45 in Masterpower.. this thing is a monster.. makes the T70 look like a shrimp..lol I think it will support as much power as i can handle comfortably and then some..

a few questions for anyone familiar with these turbos.. is there a compressor Map available for them? and also, if anyone else has tried these turbos particularly this GT45, what size downpipe are you running? I had originally decided ona 3.5" DP, and the largest portion, OD of the Vband flange on the back of the turbo measures exactly 4" and the inside diameter of the turbine outlet is 3 3/8" I am now wondering if i can use a 3.5" OD downpipe..anyone have any input for this? also the compressor inlet is 4 1/4" OD.. ythis is gonna be tough to work with in my confined space... the actual compressor inlet for the blades is 3", would it be a huge restriction to drop the cold air intake plumbing to 3.5"s, or do i need to find a way to run the 4 1/4" for the outermost inlet diameter? any help would is appreciated as I am starting the build this weekend and am ready to rock it out and get it running again!

thanks in advance guys!

Chris

They are pretty big. I picked mine up a couple weeks ago off ebay for $550. I'll probably start building the new turbo sys. towards the end of the summer.

did you get any flanges with yours? you got a very good deal on it! I have about $690 invested in mine including the T4 inlet flange... I also am trying the HKS style 50mm wastegate and a tial 50mm BOV.. gonna be a few weeks before i am ready to roll it out of the garage, but it should be a very fun build for me.. something completely new and i love working with metal.. and not many turboed C4 corvettes running around.. if the big hairdryer doesn't make too much noise, i may be able to keep the level of stealth intact for a couple weeks..lol

I don't think it came with any flanges, but I did get all the gaskets. Not a big deal though. You gonna keep us updated with pics and such?

Fitting that thing under the hood of a C4 must be tough. I wonder how it'd measure up matched to a set of PTK hot parts in a 4th gen fbody... hmmm...

I saw those and they looked rather promising, but a compressor map really would be nice to compare their actual output.

What was the turbine A/R on yours? I think last time I saw one on ebay it was over 1.2 - so it'd have a really potent spool come like 3400rpm

The MP GT45 A/R is a 1.05. Bascially its a large frame T70.

yes.. as Jose mentioned.. has a 1.05 A/R ont he turbine side and a .66 on the compressor side.. can definately tell its a larger frame then the old T70 master power i had before!

yes gonna document the build on the 96 vette.. but as of this mornign it took back seat yet again to my wifes 95 vette.. broken valve spring... gonna yank the heads and inspect everything to see if there was a cause or just simply the fact that 20k miles with .560" lift finally did them in. oh well, these hting shappen!
