help me select a cam.

which cam would be best for my application...i want the cam thats going to make the most power with my setup, but i dont want to over cam the car...im thinking a CC 218/230 114 lsa, or maybe the 224/236 114...the engine is bone stock and i do have plans for a rebuild in the future...the biggest i would go on the displacement is 355 CI...What kind of grind would be the best for me? Any reccommendations on a custom grind? When the engine is rebuilt when im dont with college the engine will see 15+ psi from the D1SC..

Re: help me select a cam.

Either will be fine. The 224/236 cam with my Vortech T-trim in a 383 didn't reach peak hp 'till 6500, which is a touch high for most. Expect the 218/230 cam to peak lower.

More preferrable than either would be 224/230 - 112, +4.

I am happy with my cam(See Sig). It is very streetable. Its on a 113 LSA but the ramp rates are so fast that there is not much overlap. Torque is strong from 2000 to 6200.

Re: help me select a cam.

I have a GTP4 cam - 226/236 114lsa I believe. Stock heads, stock bottom end w/7lb Vortech SQ and bolt ons - thru loose converter and bad wires it made 431.6/475.0

It did see 460+rwhp but we went with a more conservative tune because of the ignition issue.

Is that too much cam for a 350 or 355 ci engine? if i went with one of the comp cam grind say a 224/236...am i going to run into any piston valve clearance issues?..i do have 1.6 ratio rockers...so the intake on that cam is .502, and .520 on exhaust...so with my 1.6's...that would be around .535 intake and .555 exhaust...is that too much lift? Will this cam be optimal for me?

Trust me on this.

Also, Piston/Valve clearance will not be an issue for you. That's only an issue with cams 255+ at .050 on <106 LSA. It's not lift that causes interference - it's duration and lobe centers.

Thanks for the replies mike...if i were to go with a 224/230 or 224/ 236...how much rwhp could i expect given the car makes probably 380 rwhp?

Why havent you ever said what the car dynoed? I know you got it tuned, wasnt it on the dyno down in the springs? Or did you end up having to get mailorder tuning?

Re: help me select a cam.

There's basically no (that I can find) dyno testing on supercharged engines with cam changes. It's anybody's best guess as to the hp increase with a cam swap.

RMCR uses Z industries in CA for the chip flashing...we welded a bung on the y pipe before the cat to get a wideband on it..im seeing (for the most part) 12:1..i would have liked to get dyno tuning, it was just hard to wait for ppl you know?

Re: help me select a cam.

Car runs great with that cam - not too big at all. NA went 12.36@110.82 - no piston to valve clearance issues at all. The only "knock" on this cam is that it isn't as "big" as others out there - most people have the misconception that bigger is better.

Nice thanks for the input...im thinking ill go with a cam much like yours...prolly the 224/236 114 lsa...how much boost will i lose when i install this cam? Which lifters are best for me and are there any install guides other than my service manual? Im thinking we will end up dropping the engine from the bottom, but would like to know more...

There are other people in Colorado that can dyno tune a supercharged engine. You knew who some of them were, too

Re: help me select a cam.

I'm told that the cam that I run is able to pass echeck with help. I'm not even trying - shooting for collector plates.

I used factory GM replacement lifters with my install - no issues.
