IAT Sensor

Hey I was wondering if I can use the screw in type iat sensor with the stock pcm? There is closed element and open element. It seems that it is the same a the factory coolant temp sensor?

What.....coolant temp...IAT.....not sure what you are trying to ask

you can cut the IAT thermistor out of the stock housing..and then install it into the screw in housing

I see what you are saying....it looks like the thermistor is inside the brass screw in part...

I would use that in water....but I dont know how much the brass cover would slow down the heat transfer to the thermistor in air if any...I guess you could cut it off so it looked something like this...

I just like to have the thermistor open to air flow...thats just me

An 02 bung will work too...

I am using the screw in type open element one. I had to dig through the parts store catalogue and show them the picture before they could find the right type though.

They all use the same scale, but a closed element will change too slowly for a boosted setup.

Should work with the stock pooter.

alot of 80's model GM's. I know the 88 camaro 2.8L had it in the air box 3/8" npt thread.

I drilled and tapped my intake to stick it in there under the TB, its a vic with a 4150 and I didn't have a good spot to put the sensor

Are you using stock PCM or aftermarket?

Vic -E has the port on the rear pass side 3/8/" npt but I use DFI and needed 2 of those ports....DFI reads intake temp and Air temp, if you are using stock PCM it will work perfect
