Ignition for turbo 383 running E85.

Will a stock LT1 optispark ignition work with big injectors, boost and E85? I have a MSD BTM and a converter box to run low impedance injectors if needed. Another option would be to convert to a LSX ignition.

Use a capacitive discharge ignition box, the stock LT1 ignition doesn't work well with boost at all. I was gapped down to .020" on the stock ignition (with MSD blaster coil and MSN superconductor 8.5mm wires even) and the spark was still blowing out. Now I'm gapped at .035" with a MSD 6a and have no issues.

That is interesting. I'm running a factory Opti with MSD 8.5 wires and TR6s gapped at 0.035. No ignition problems here, but I guess YMMV. 60# hi impedance injectors.

Factory ignition coil? How much boost? I was running 7lbs on stock heads.

Factory coil. I ran 7# of boost on the stock heads for ~15k miles with 42# injectors. I now have a built engine running 12# of boost, no issues "so far" (fingers crossed, of course).

I, too, couldn't make the stock ignition work with boost. However, with an MSD coil and Crane HI6-TR, no problems up to 22 psi.

Hmmm. Is there much difference between 94-95 and 96-97? I noticed there was not a coil available for my 97. Just wondering.

PT88 turbo on about a 9.0:1 383. I've got a MSD BTM, but if I have enough money I'd like to just get the LSX ignition so I can spin the motor a little higher and have a better idle and lean cruise. That and I already have efilive.

I'm just keeping my options open just in case the stock stuff wont be up to it.

I knew the connectors were different. Are they so improved that there is not a need for an aftermarket replacement for them?
