LT1 D1SC Help!

Has anyone Fabricated something to change the location of the head unit. I just dont think it works to well in that area. The orange dryer hose has such a sharp bend in it, just doesnt look good. Even after my K-Member was installed it still really tight!

Re: LT1 D1SC Help!

I dunno about relocating the blower, but many people have fabricated a replacement for that crappy orange dryer hose. It's the worst thing about the Procharger kits, not that Vortech is much better. I have no welding skills, so it cost me a few hundred $$$ to get a rigid piece fabricated. It's actually two pieces connected by a short length of stiff flexible tubing. That change alone was worth 2-3psi of boost!

No one will see any of that tubing, And the instructions for moving the stuff around in the engine bay is for a reason. Fabricating a new bracket, and figure the tubing out again is gonna suck anyhow, but you do what you need to.

That may be true, but don't foget that the tubing might be keeping boost lvls down, so that you don't add to much boost to the engine, and have it become a problem. Thats if you have a stock engine.

If he's using a D1SC then I would hope his engine is not stock. But that aside, inefficient tubing is not the way to keep boost down, that's what pullies are for

do this, before you go and spend hundreds possibly thousand on relocating the blower, get a screen door material and a nice v band clamp put that over your blower and then report back and tell us how bad that location really is...

Re: LT1 D1SC Help!

I have a D1. Fabbed my own intake duct from 4" steel exhaust tubing from Summit. Cut sections @ various angles and MIG welded them to clear. Also installed turning vanes to direct the air flow. A 4" tube fit good on the D1 air inlet, but, it is still a tight fit around the engine cradle and front sway-bar.

That 4" flex tube just does not cut it. Wears out and gets alot of holes. I think a D1SC is similar to the D1, but there's not much room in a 4th gen. I also had to cut down my idler pulley so it would clear the fans. A winter project. I probably got pics somewhere? (97 camaro 383)

Re: LT1 D1SC Help!

I found some old dyno sheets. Fabbed rigid tubing over the orange dryer hose netted ~50rwhp. Open inlet another 40 or so!!! Too bad there's no way just to fit an air cleaner over the inlet and forget all that tubing.
