Modification to FLX 220 fans for fitment?

I know a lot of the turbo guys are using the Flex a Lite 220 fans for their front mount for extra room. I also need this extra room for the YSi's cog drive setup. I am not going to do the vertical radiator mod. I got the fans, but they don't really fit worth a damn, as they don't sit flush against the radiator. Are you guys modifying them at all, and how are you mounting them? Are you centering them on the radiator, all the way up or down? I feel I need to take the cutoff wheel to this fan setup. Thanks.

WILL NOT WORK!!! Only way these work on the Griffin Rad is to cut hole in the fan shroud at the top left, and also only to have only upper and lower hose for rad not oil cooler + Auto trans lines and steam line......I had posted about these problem not to long ago... I went with single syclone... Works great... If I had to do over I would have ordered wider than 27 inch rad to 29 then it would work with all stock lines and locations...

I do not have a turbo, but, I did move my rad for a Procharger D1 mod, and, a vac pump option.

I could do a turo, but, I am not in a cash positive positon. The car is very loose when my foot gets into the throttle. (97ss 383ci D1 - M6) B.

what radiator is this? I bought the OFI setup for a rediculous amount of $ and I don't think it's going to work with my automatic tranny setup since it has not provisions for transmission cooler lines....

You dont need to run you tranny line into the radiator, just buy a nice 10 or 12 pass tranny cooler for 50 bucks mount it to the front just as I did..... The radiator is griffin 252 series that everyone uses...

I don't know how many passes my tranny cooler makes, but i have a good sized one mounted up front. Frank from CPT says it won't be enough if I don't have the cooler in a radiator also. His logic makes some sense. How are you going to cool the fluid while you're driving stop light to stop light and there's no air moving through the air cooler? I'm curious of whether you have or if you no of anybody who has hooked up a tranny temp gauge while they have only the external trans cooler.

Frank knows his stuff, if thats the case I would hook a small fan to the tranny cooler for in traffic driving...

If you are in traffic, more than likely the radiator fan will be on. It will pull air through the tranny cooler too.

That was my thought, but Frank knows these trans very well.. I will just add a small pusher fan call it good.

Sorry to Hijack my thread back, but I thought I would give a lil step-by-step procedure for modifying the Flex a lite 220 fans for use with a stock radiator.

Here is the problem that I didnt like. Fits like ****.

Step 1, remove weatherstripping.
Step 2, mark the plastic shroud where it touches the radiator.

Step 3, Remove fans, cut area from inside out from mark to mark.

Frank stated that it MAY be okay if its mounted in front of the radiator, and probably by the reasoning that the fans would pull air through it. However, my OFI radiator setup uses dual pushers which do not allow mounting of the trans cooler in front of the radiator. Putting it behind the radiator wouldn't make sense since there would be heated air pushing through it.

Sweet! Are those fans stronger/better than the stock fan units?

Yea, and a bit quieter. They are also about 2-3 inches thinner.

ak95ta, how exactly did you get it to mount to the radiator? Mine just came in yesterday and before I tear into it I noticed there isn't any mounting brackets for the fans except the 4 clunk plastic units that came w/ the fans. Those clearly don't seem like they'll work so I was just curious as to how you mounted yours. Did you position the fan so it sits on the lower radiator mount and how did you secure it if you went this route?
