Re clocking Vortech..........

Can you re-clock the head unit from the 12 o'clock position to the around the 5-6 o'clock position like the prochargers? I would like to do this so I can do a front mount intercooler a little easier.

Yes, assuming that all the blowers attach the same as my YSi. There are 3 metal "strips" holding the housing to the blower, each one has 2 machine screws in it, for a total of 6 screws. Loosen these, shouldn't need to take them off, and rotate the housing however you would like, then tighten them. I called Vortech and they don't have any specific torque value, just snug them up without stripping or snapping them.

Thanks Birdie2000! Thats all I wanted to know. I'll be looking to do this soon, hopefully.
I have a knock coming from the passenger side of the motor. I need to find out if its something major, or maybe just the a rod hitting my canton pan or dipstick tube. I hope thats all it is. Pray for me...

Thanks,

I'm bringing this one back to the top......its not too old of a post and I'm working on doing exactly what the original poster wanted to do.

I'm finding that its nearly impossible to rotate the output of my S-Trim to the 5 o'clock position. I've got the output housing separated from the main gear housing, that's not the problem.

The problem I ran into is that when the output housing is rotated, it won't clear the upper mounting bracket. The brackets can't be shimmed because it will obviously throw off the belt alignment. I *think* I can grind away some of the bulk of the upper aluminum bracket, but I'm concerned about compromising the integrity of the bracket itself. The bracket is hollow toward the bottom, and if I grind away as much as I need to get it to fit, it WILL open up a hole on the bottom of it.

Anyone actually done this to an S-Trim? I'm in a bind now....I'm working on installing my FMIC, but there is almost no way to run piping to the front mount when the blower is sitting in its regular 12 o'clock output position.

Anyone know of someone who HAS done this? Any pics? Any suggestions? Need help!!

Im thinking of doing the same thing.. I just havent tried it yet. I have a T trim and lookin to do a FMIC.. just cant figure out anyway to clock that damn blower.. I was thinking just route the tub down from the top but id rather not do that.. basically the whole point of this post is to subscribe to the thread.. so yea..

Re: Re clocking Vortech..........

You know, I've searched all of the f-body forums I know of....done Google and Yahoo searches and have not found ANYONE who has done this and put anything on the internet about how to do it.

However, I KNOW that someone HAS to have done it before.....and I'd like to know how. So, in short....TTT.

I'm about to do this with my T-Trim, I figure if I have to grind out too much of the bracket maybe it can be reinforced by welding the hollow parts up solid.

Re: Re clocking Vortech..........

I had thought about doing that also, maybe run the disharge pipe off the blower across the engine bay between the water pump and radiator to the IC then back up through where the factory air box was. I think I might be considering one of those same intercoolers, when it arrives would you e-mail me some more pics of it? It looks like we're both doing the same thing, although I'm a little behind where you're at I just ordered new pistons to put my CR at about 8.3 to 1.
