should i switch my ai blower cam???
Im not to happy with the power and low end torque of my car and i think it has alot to do with the cam.Im getting new heads and i think i can gain alot more power on a different sized cam.The specs on my old motor is..
355 lt1
8:9:1 compression
ai 200cc heads
ai custom blower cam 219.5/229.5 .555 .555 111.5 lsa
ai intake manifold
58mm monoblade
vortech si blower at 12 psi
I was running into fuel issues around 5k rpms but still made power to 6k rpms. Most power i got out of it was 480rwhp at 6k and only 400rwtq at 5k rpms.
I have the new 195 afr elimanator heads going on the car and there in the process of getting hand ported. They should flow around 310 intake 230 exhuast.
Will the cost of a new cam and labor be worth the rwhp gain and do you guys have any suggestions or dyno numbers from your motor if its similar to mine?

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
My suggestion would be to sell the car.
That cam is NOT a problem lowend torque wise.
You could gain topend with more cam but if anything that would further hurt lowend.
I would call your compression ratio half a point too low which is a problem for lowend torque.
I also suspect you will find the heads don't help atall. IF you find a gain it will be from retuning it not those heads.
What gears and if an auto what stall?

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
it has 3.73 gears and a 2500 stall. The compression will be 9:1 with the afr heads.theres been other 355 motors on here ive seen making 400 rwtq by 3k rpms on a 224/236 114 lsa with the afr 195 competion heads on 9 psi with a pg600 witch is around the same size blower as mine.the heads on the exhuast side almost 40 more cfms then my advanced induction heads do also witch is a big thing when it comes to a blower

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
and if you look at AI's results page they have a stock shortblock with their 200cc Trickflow making what your ca does on half the boost. That is not because of the trickflow vs GM castings either. You should figure out what is wrong with your car. You have the parts to support more power.

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
i think the main problem was i didnt have enough injector i was only running 42's but i still wasnt happy with the low end torque compared to other 355 dyno graphs ive been looking at.Also the heads were cracked in 2 spots in the exhuast ports but i dont know if that would effect horsepower

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
ya it was tuned on the dyno. The dyno graph is on a thread i posted about a month or 2 ago about disapointment about power.you can see where the methonal kicks on but runs out of fuel very quickley.Im mostly dissapoint in the powerband.i dont even make 400rwhp/rwtq untill 5000rpms when ive seen plety of other cars make that by 3500 rpms

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
I don't think it's your heads or cam causing the problems unless they are defective somehow. You might have some kind of physical problem with your setup or there is something really wrong with the fueling or timing. It is possible your injectors are too small.
How are you bringing in the methanol/water? and what is the timing doing under boost?

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
the methonal if spraying by pressure reading from the mass air flow. The injectors were to small but still all that has nothing to do with the powerband up untill nearly 5k rpms.timing is around 27 at full boost.I have 60lb injectores now and decided to upgrade the heads because one of my heads from advanced induction had a little crack in the exhuast port and they said it was due to my tune so they wouldnt replace it even though there was no overheat signs on the vlaves or anything.i think going from a cam on a 111.5 lsa to a 114 will give me alot more tourque earlier and more power up top from the 40 cfms of exhuast im gaining from going from a.i heads to the afr 195 elimantors

Re: should i switch my ai blower cam???
Theres another thread from sumone with the compition afr 195 on a 224/236 114 lsa on a 350 on 9:5 compression making 400 rwtq at 3k rpms compared to mine making 300 rwtq at the same rpm
