Exploded! Brady, I take it, you don't know what caused the damage?

Arnie, the first one was bad because one of the screws that holds the rotor in place had backed out. The alignment pin on the rotor had broken off, and the rotor probably had 10* of "slop" in it. Also, the disc was bent up where the rotor screws go through it. It's junked because of that.

The second one (pics here) was basically exploded internally. When I took it apart it looks like the rotor just came apart. It was a mess and the whole thing is junk.

I had a spare opti and I "modified" the rotor in hopes of it not coming apart, I also put loctite on the rotor screws.

I probably won't have any more problems, I've just got the Optispark blues here lately, and I think it's compounded because I thought the LTCC would cure it..

Thanks for the response Brady. The reason I asked was to possibly determine whether the bearing (or it's bore) may have been a contributor to it's demise. In your case, it appears not. With the high voltage responsibility removed, rotor mods have become an option. Hopefully for you, these modifications can lessen rotor related opti failures.

Brady,
Thats cool. I might just make a trip up there this Friday then if your car is done I'd like to see it run.

They had a couple Turbo stangs (90-91 LX's) at the track they were pretty wicked. Haven't seen a turbo'd camaro yet sounds sweet though...

Good luck with the car

Joe, stay tuned for new times (good or bad).. I know what I want it to run and what I think it should run, but I'm not saying anything to jinx myself The car has been together for over a year now and I still haven't made a clean 1/4 mile pass.. Things have been a little rough..

Travis, come on down, we have a large time every 3rd weekend of the month.. Well, sometimes... last month we rained out.. There's some pretty quick cars down here in redneck land..

Brady, that's great on DR's. Your mph is right in line with what we were doing when we were running mid 9s on those tires. I was looking back through some times slips just now and when we ran 6.30s at 116-117, the et would end up around a 9.60 at 146-146. That was with a 1.48 to a 1.50 60ft, though. So you shouldn't have any problem at all pulling down that 9 second pass next time out. I'm anxious to hear you've done the deed!

Good luck Brady!
Hope that this cures all your blues and you get the 9.x pass!

I know all too well about not being able to get a clear pass. My first was actualyl my ONLY good full pass. haha too bad it was low boost.

Keep us posted bro.

It ain't looking good.. Jack @ Precision called yesterday afternoon and told me they were basically building me a new converter.. He said 2 days.. It could ship thursday and get here friday but I'm not going to hold breath..

We've got an 8" Torco converter that we could put in it, but I really don't feel like all the hassle just to swap converters again Saturday..

Brady, do you know the next time you'll be out to Hub City? I'd make the drive to see your car in action.

Derrick, I think we may go August 3rd for the sunday afternoon Test and tune.. I don't much care for the Saturday night crowd..

I'll be racing @ Mobile tomorrow night, I was able to borrow a converter, we just slammed it back together and it seems ok..
The converter was built for a 540" big block w/spray (900+ HP)

We'll see what happens.

Cool, by all means stop by. I'll be in a 2001 white crew cab GMC draggin a white Haulmark enclosed trailer. We'll be pitted next to the brightest yellow '84 SVO (D2R procharged) mustang you've ever seen. We usually pit up by the fence.

Hope you like Bud Light
