Supercharging stock LT1 dangers involved??

Seriously considering supercharging my LT1. Mods in signature. Question is, on stock internals is this a not so good idea. I swear I remember reading somewhere that the LT1 engine stock doesn't hold up well under supercharge. Let me know what I need to do to slap one on.

Thanks
Adam

it can work, but i wouldn't want to run too much boost
maybe like 7lbs
i say start saving for a rebuild soon
the compression is just too high for these to be supercharged and last

You could run 6psi boost safely (safely being a relative term) if you had a good tune, Some get away with it for quite a while some don't. Running a blower is not as simple as just bolting on and go. The stock pistons and rings don't like boost too much. Just keep in mind it won't be if your motor goes Kaboom but when. I would just save your money and plan and doing a rebuild at some point if you go blown. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, Cause you will love a blown car but just trying to be realistic.

Re: Supercharging stock LT1 dangers involved??

hey RCF925......do you know of anyone in my area (central, southern cal.) that does good rebuilds at a decent cost? im just looking toward the future. im kinda sick right now of working on my car and im not in any kind of mind set to go pulling the motor and diving into the internals.

but like you said, ive got to think of the future. i just finished putting on the vortech. i dont have any boost gauge so im not sure what its running but id imaging around 5 with the aftercooler. its running real rich and ive got the MAF massager on the way (the MAF totally spazed out on me).

i dont really want to get crazy with it, just lower the compression and and go with the forged pistons if thats what i can get away with when it comes time. ya know, just make it a better motor for the SC, and maybe up the boost a little.

oh, and for Yby4n95Z.......you dont just slap the blower on. trust me, i knew it was going to be a chore, but dang! it was a much longer and more frustraiting process than doing the Hot Cam install!!! just check out vortech's install manual, and then see what you think of doing it, but multiply your expectations of the difficulty by at least 4 times and then youll know how much work it will be.....
