Turbo headers??

Turbo headers??
If I decide to make my own, I figure it may be a good idea to modify existing headers.
Here is my question, is it possible to modify any small block chevy headers, or do they need to be LTx specific? If I can find a header that fits good (whether flipped up side down or not, and just weld ona vband flange) then thats what I want to do.

Re: Turbo headers??
I'd like to see pics. I tried to do that but it got to the point that they had to be so extensively modified that it was easier to build from scratch. Plus the flanges on those small block headers are only 1/4". I would think they would warp pretty easily. The room in the Fbody engine compartment as you know is pretty small, and then you have to deal with the accessory bracket on the passenger side. There is no flipped shorty thats going to clear that. I did see a pic of a car with block huggers flipped upside downwith the turbo flanges welded right on, but it was in a truck and had lots of hood clearance.

Re: Turbo headers??
You could prolly weld up a driver's side header, and pipe the existing passenger side down under the AC compressor and over to the driver's side. I think Jordan did it that way his first time. Here's a link to his t76 system http://fastblackcar.com/camaro/turbo.../turborouting/

Re: Turbo headers??
I was talking a twin setup, but I suppose a single might be do-able like that. You would have to have the passenger side go back behind the engine and up to the other side because with the pass side forward swept, it will run into the accessory bracket. A single cat drivers side manifold on the pass side might work, as it goes pretty much straight down at what would be between #2 and #4 cylinders (if it was on the pass side). Then run a flipped shorty on the drivers side.

Re: Turbo headers??
It would be a tight fit trying to fit a cross over and a down pipe on one side of the engine, especially in a 4th gen engine bay. I think it would be easier to run the cross over around the front of the engine along the front of the K member. A tubular unit would definately help.

Re: Turbo headers??
I think what I was trying to say was if you ran the manifold on the pass side you would be able to run it forward, the exit of the manifold would be toward the front of the car that way. I'm not sure if it would clear the motor mount though.

Re: Turbo headers??
Here are pic's of my custom single set-up. It's for a PT-76 GT-S. The passenger side header is missing, but it is a regular SLP shorty in the standard orientation. The driver's side header started out life as an SLP shorty, but I mainly just used the flanges and maybe 2" of pipe.
