Based on hp limit alone, the T76GTS is pretty close to an F1. The turbonetics T4 T76's won't support as much power though.

Re: Turbo or S/C

Although ebay may be a great place to find odds and ends for our cars, it is hard to say the items you find there will be reliable or not. This makes buying items that need to be highly reliable such as a Turbo a bigger decision when it comes to buying it online, IMO.

I don't have a problem buying light bulbs and accesories from ebay, but I personally wouldn't buy an item such as a turbo from there.

I have to agree. Though very tempting at times (cuz of the price), buys a very important thing as a turbo/supercharger off ebay just seems a little sketchy.

Re: Turbo or S/C

I could be way off, but I figured that the ATI intercooler would be sufficient, since the supercharger runs cooler than the turbo, meaning the air charge is lower than it would be on a turbo setup. I figure the turbos need the extra intercooler to cool the air charge more effectively due to the increased heat...

Well Im planing on having the engine set up with meth. How much of a differance will that make.

Heat generally depends on the efficiency of the compressor. If they are equally efficient, heat from pressurizing the air to the same level should generate the exact same amount of heat...

I haven't looked at the compressor maps from superchargers in ages, but as long as the compressor is sized right, the same intercooler should work equally for both.

Roadie is right. Plus, most turbochargers are 5 - 7% more efficient than superchargers, so any given intercooler will support more power with a turbo.

Re: Turbo or S/C

Well, by that measure, it would seem the PTK turbo setup with a T-76GTS head unit would be the best choice, since with the extra cost of an F-1 Procharger upgrade, as well as going with a FMIC, the prices would be roughly the same. In fact, the turbo may be cheaper in that respect??

That's definitely a good setup. A year or so ago, a guy named Jeremy made 990 rwhp with that very setup on a 355.

So wait, now you guys are saying the PTK tubo setup is going to be cheaper than a F1 blower setup. I was under the impression that with all the extra BS you need to buy for a turbo set up is way more expensive than a blower setup.

Re: Turbo or S/C

~$6600 for the turbo kit, complete with FMIC and all the bells & whistles.

~$4000 for the base S/C setup, then throw on an upgrade to the F-1, then add in a FMIC, as well as the cost for retrofitting it to the F-1, and your pricetag will most certainly be above $6600...

I think when you set your goals above 700 rwhp, a $grand difference here and there is going to be a drop in the bucket. You need to base your decision on the technical merits of each.

Re: Turbo or S/C

Hasnt anyone considered putting your own front mount setup on the PTK setup? I know my turbo kit isnt going to cost me nearly close to 6600.Even with a T-76

PTK headers/cross over-1100
Custom turbo mount/DP-300
OBX intercooler-200
piping from turbo-ic-intake-150
WG/BOV(44mm tial/50mm)-500
Turbo 1300

theres 3,000$ right there for the most basic parts..about 85% of the kit...now add 1000$ for misc turbo parts hell 1500 to be safe. and your still only hat 4500$ DIY is SO much easier and as long as all the hard parts are done..it makes life so much easier when trying to get everything done. Just a thought. And again..I know theres about anothet 10k in hidden costs, like engine, trany upgrades,tuning..but we are just talking about the kit here...and For anyone who said the OBX intercoolers are junk..theres guys running 9's on em so they cant be THAT bad.

Meth will be huge. In fact you may be able to run whatever small size intercooler (if any at all) you want with it if you are planning on using Meth. It will take care of most all of your possible detonation concerns.

Ha! I never did the math on that thing. Care to give directions as to where we can find all these "pieces" at those prices??
