Waste gate on a Centrifugal Supercharger with adjustible boost...

What do you guys think of this???Centrifugal Supercharger with a Wastegate for controlling boost, then you can pulley for 18-20psi of boost and have a boost controller so on the street and putting around you could run say 14psi max but still have the faster ramp boost curve of the smaller pulley and 20psi is just a push of a button away......

I know this has been discussed before and most said it wont work...Well here's one on a working car...

gotta love different boost settings at a push of a button...

If it works that would be cool. I'd also like to see a clutched pulley that completely stops the supercharger from spinning when unused. I drove around the other day with my belt off and the car was super smooth and significantly quieter (whine free).

There are just some days that I really get tired of the constant whining....

does the waste gate operate when in vacuum?

you still going to need different tunes for different boost.

In vacuum, the wastegate is closed. Once it sees boost (based on the boost reference line from wastegate to the intake manifold, it will start to open and bleed off. When boost reference = spring pressure in the gate, the gate will open.

Check out a srt-6 crossfire. It has a roots style supercharger with a clutch on it. I dont know how much they boost, but its been done. I couldnt believe it when I saw it. I cant imagine it holds anymore than 6 psi.

How would air get thru a roots if it wasn't turning. Wouldn't it need a bypass tract to the other side of the supercharger?

It is not a positive seal between the rotors. When the car is running, you can sometimes even see the pulley turning from the vacuum. You'll see this happen at the races from time to time, belt breaks/lose race/still drive home.

11.6 PSI of boost, no Mad Max clutch here.

14.5 PSI and no Mad Max clutch here either.

Boost levels and engineering data is posted from manufacturers websites as well as common magazine websites.
Both cars are interesting none-the-less.

I can see a clutch on a centrifugal, but someone has to show me how it would work on a roots without some kind of a bypass.

Also, for programming, I have a smart spark which can hold two ignition maps and one of them can be switched at the same time as the clutch or whatever would be used for bleeding off boost, so I could do it that way. For fuel, I'm stuck with one map if I stay with the stock PCM. I would much rather go aftermarket and have a wideband with boost referenced fuel.

I thought the clearances were a lot tighter than that. Don't some of them even have teflon seals on the rotors?

The charge gets pushed around the outside of the rotors (between the rotors and the case)... not between the rotors.
