He already said it's not a A2A, It may in fact be a supra road or rally intercooler, but I believe those were air to water to air.. Seen one on the front of a Silvia a few weeks back...

Well, according to my Autotap log of my last pass (11.13 @ 125.47), My IATs started at 140 and topped out at a shade over 260 at the end of the quarter, LOL.

14 psi Non intercooled, overspinning my Strim pretty good

Maybe I will add an intercooler soon. OH, and that was WITH the N20 spraying before the IAT sensor.

That is pretty hot. You would see some nice gains with an intercooler.

Do you spray the whole length of the track?

I am gonna try and make it back up for the swscc street car challenge on the 23rd of October. Maybe my tranny wont explode this time, LOL. See you there.

Re: What IATs are you guys seeing?

On an NA car (lets say 350, heads/cam) it can make a HUGE difference in IATs to spray a large shot of N2O. Thats because of the ratios of air/nitrous involved. Lets say that the motor draws in 37.5lbs/min of 100 degree air. If you spray that motor with a 250 shot (coming out of the nozzle at -124.6 degrees) It would lower the IATs to 45 degrees. That makes for some nice cool air.

(12lb/min N20*-124.6deg + 37.5lbs/min ATM*100deg)/49.5(total lbs/min)

In my car, My blower puts out 70lbs/min of air at approx 290 degrees. Add to that 100 shot of N2O and it only drops to 263 degrees.

(4.8lb/min N2O*-124.6deg + 70lb/min ATM*290deg)/74.8(total lbs/min)

On a high flow forced induction motor, nitrous is NOT a replacement for an intercooler, as the effect is only a 20-35 degree reduction in IATs, whereas a good intercooler can drop them well over 100 degrees.

I am working on putting either a water/air or a air/air on my car for that exact reason, but that doesn't mean I am gonna take my N2O off.

I believe you, Wish i understood how you got the no2 air's temp from that calculation.. I just thought -124.6 temps against 290 with a large dose like said before a 250 shot would be enough to cool down that air to 150 maybe? Is that air calc in the calc forum?

I do agree that nitrous is not a replacement for an intercooler but when I spray my air temps would drop from 160* to 60* with a 100shot.

I looked up nitrous oxide's boiling point, and it is -124.6 degrees (at least thats the number I found online).

You could look at it this way. Take a 1 gallon bucket of water that is 200 degrees, and pour it into another bucket with 1 gallon of50 degree water. Since the 2 buckets hold the same amount, the hot water would cool down 75 degrees.

Now if you take the same bucket of hot water, and dump it into another bucket that only has 1 cup of 50 degree water. The temperature reduction would be much less.

A high lb/min motor will not see very large IAT drops from a relatively small amount of nitrous (100 shot is .8lb per 10 seconds, or 4.8lb/minute) because not only is the air much hotter than in an NA application, but there is alot more air, 70lb/minute in my case.

I would imagine there is a few more variables that go into calculating exactly what the temps are/would be (density differences, etc) but these numbers work out with my car, based on the supercharger output temp equations on the turbo buick board. I would assume they are fairly close.

I was assuming that most people were seeing decreases in air temps at these amounts..

Re: What IATs are you guys seeing?

Running blower only (10# of boost with Vortech aftercooler), I see a 10 degree rise at the end of the 1/4 mile; typically 107 at the start, 117 at the end. Adding a 75 shot of nitrous I have no temperature gain at the end of the 1/4 mile.

Cruising with 80 degree outside temps, I see 100 degrees at the IAT; bumper to bumper traffic I see 120. I've got a dash mounted Scanmaster so I view my temps all the time.

Re: What IATs are you guys seeing?

My setup:

YS Trim
348ci 9:1
110 gas mostly (this summer)
22-24 degrees of timing at WOT
Griffin a/a FMIC
14-15psi mostly at track
3450 r/w

I saw 90F after my burnout and 130-140F in my logger.

By the time I had returned to the pits, say 2 minutes, my IAT's had dropped to 100-105F.

I have the nose of my car cut out so I think that fresh air is hitting the 'cooler.

I'll be logging and testing some changes here in the fall to see how far I can push the car on 93 pump gas.
