Will this cam work?

I'm picking up a PSC-1 this weekend for my car. This spring I am getting the block bored .030, have forged components installed, 1.6 RR, comp R lifters, LT4 intake/heads, 58mm TB. I'll be running an 8# pulley and a small shot of nitrous.

Last year I bought a XE230-236 cam for just a nitrous motor, a friend is selling the SC at a great price and I can't pass it up, here are the specs of the cam:
I E
Adv Duration 282 288
Dur @ .050 230 236
Lift w/ 1.6 .544 .555
LSA 112

Will this cam work for my set-up? Procharger's website suggests LSA 112-116 (where this is at) and split pattern: exhaust duration and lift approx. 10 degrees and .010, respectively, greater than intake.

I'm still new to all these cam numbers and trying to learn as I go.

The duration and lift are fine whats going to kill you is the LSA. You basically going to blowe all the newly installed boost out of your exaust. Now if you can get that cam changed to a 114-116 that would be great.

Will it work?? Yes.

Is it optimal. No.

A 112LSA is not good with boost, try looking for a 114LSA, that will help to keep the cylinders filled instead of bleeding boost out of the CC.

Its just going to bleed off low RPM cylinder pressure, I wouldnt worry about it.

Going from a 112 to a 114 will only decrease overlap by 4 degrees.

I really don't think 4 degrees will make that big of a difference.

Call Comp and ask them to spec a cam for you. When in doubt, ask a professional.

Yeah, I called them on 3 different occassions, talked to 3 different people, and got 3 different answers. I'm just going to stick with this cam for now. I'll wait till I bump up the pulley in the future to change cams.

Thanks for the responses, except for Ryan's. Yes, I own an old Civic, but I'm not proud of it (not riced out at all!)

They guys who answer the phone at Comp are not professionals. They get paid minimum wage to look up cams in a catalog. Unfortunately, the real experts at Comp are not available to the general public, except for a [much higher] price.

That's a fact. I wouldn't rely on their Tech Line except for specific answers to technical questions. Don't rely on them for cam selection.

BTW: two degrees of lobe separation can make a noticible difference in a cam.

The only way to determine the cam that works best for your setup is to test it on a dyno or track, which is why the big boys buy cams a dozen at a time. The next best alternative is have a professional cam grinder design one for you based on his experience and expertise. The wrong way to do it is ask people at a web site. That's my opinion.

Highlander, since there are no mods in your sig, I will only say that John Lingenfelter put a lot of lobe separation in his LS1 and LT1 cams, so 116 or 117 might make some sense. I run 114 with 4 degrees advance in my blown LS1.

Im not from texas, im from PR but in that time there were a lot of people inquiring about my car locally on the forums and im a bit suspicious

I have a 383 AFR 190 heads (soon to be 210s) 224/236 cam with 114lsa (soon to be 116).

with 8 psi boost and a worn impeller

http://netdial.caribe.net/~highland/impellerc.jpg

I did 555rwhp on a mustang dyno
517rwtq.

With 10psi was 607rwhp.

This was all with an S-trim.

I also run 4 advance ground up on the cam.

This year it will be a T-trim the cam and the heads so basically a new setup... expect around 650 on pump gas.. no less.. and I hope and/or wish to reach 700rwhp.
