12 Bolt Questions

I am about to get a 12 bolt for my upcoming head and cam combo. Where did everyone get their 12 bolts from? How do they ship it?? Is it put together or what?? And what gears?? I was thinking about 4.10s because my car doesnt get driven much anyway, so it wont be that big of a deal. Also how hard is it to install them?

Re: 12 Bolt Questions

This will probably end up in drivetrain section but..

it depends on what you want. the 2 largest supliers are Strange and Moser. I went with Moser. It;s a great product. I got mine on a GP from TT performance (who I will NEVER EVER EVER do bussiness with again) but it came directly from Moser. It comes in a box, and that box is attached to a crate. It's sent by truck.

It's all up to you for options that you select. but the way I see it if your going to spend 2 grand on a 12 bolt you might as well get all the goodies. That for a moser inclused, the rear, performance cover, 33 spline eaton posi upgrade, ABS setup etc etc. It comes to you with the center assembled. All you need to do is take the caliper brakets off your old rear, and install them on the new axles when you press the bearings on the axles. The instructions show how. Then it;s just the minor things of getting everything set. You can find a few online guides that will help along the way.

as for gears. if you are an M6 go for it. I did and I love them. Throttle responce is geat and even when I ran from huricane Ivan I was more then comfortable driving from louisiana to NC this week. and this is my daily driver as well.

As for the install like I said look up a guide. It;s not bad. it would have taken me about 4 hours if not for the fact that they ordered mine as a 2000 instad of a 96 which meant that they didn't include the axle shims that I needed (just one reason tt performance pisses me off) and of course with any install there is always a little bit of custom fabing that you have to do but it;s really not bad

Re: 12 Bolt Questions

Just remember to paint it before installing. All that money and it comes unpainted and the brakes are additional plus everything else. So look to spend big bucks.

Re: 12 Bolt Questions

I spent 2,242 for the rear and maybe another 100 on things like U joint, fluids, paint, etc etc.

From your original question & the one above, I suspect you should do a little more research before thinking about a 12-bolt. Just my opinion.

Re: 12 Bolt Questions

I got mine through a Tbyrne group purchase from Moser. It came shipped by truck on a pallet and needed to have the brake backing plates put on the axles and then the bearings pressed on and assembled.

Re: 12 Bolt Questions

I have the Strange... bought it from T. Byrne. Shipped fully assembled, with fluid, and with "cross-over" U-joint of your choice. Direct bolt-in except for two tiny issues.

Check out my online guide:

Yes, paint it first - I like my "2-tone" version:
