1996 Body Control Module?

A friend from work has a clicking sound from behind the glove box, interior lights flashing, and security system problems. Sounds like problems I had on my 00 SS. I ended up changing the Body Control Module (BCM). Does the 1996 use a BCM like the 2000?

Thanx

Teke 184 ~ Thanx! I was not sure on the 96.

Spartan 7 ~ Is the BCM new? I believe her car is a 6 cyl with keyless entry but need to verify. What do you need out of the BCM?

No it's used, but it worked fine before I pulled it out. It's from a Z28, and I'm not sure if there are any differences. It has the keyless entry and stock alarm.

Yes, if I remember correctly, the first time you actuate the BCM, it matches the pelet value (1 to 15) off the ignition key. From that point out, its matched to that resistance (ohm) value.

I know this thread is old but I'm not having any luck researching this. Is there a good way to just delete or bypass the BCM? Parts discontinued just like the air pump and impossible to find. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kal,

I had a power window problem with my BCM. I had the connector pins re-soldered by an expert. The solder joints had broken where the pins enter the circuit board, on mine.
Apparently, that is a common problem with the BCMs. It was cheap fix, and everything has been good there, ever since. No new parts needed, so no key problems.

The BCM (96 and up) is extremely complex. It may be possible to bypass some functions, like the 50Hz fuel enable signal that is part of the PASS-Key (security) system.

Take a look at the wiring diagram, courtesy of Shoebox:
