4th gen T/A headlights ticking me off

alright so it started with the LH headlight gear stripping out, i installed a brass replacement. now all of a sudden that headlight stopped going up, no noise or anything. i manually put it up then cycled it up and down with the power and it worked for a while but then it would stay down. i thought it was a dead spot in the motor so i took the lever off the headlight motor and manually turned the motor until the shaft was 180* from where it was. it seems to be working well thus far, but the headlights are acting funny. all the headlights light up, but the three on the LH are pretty dim, and the far RH is fully lit. when i turn on the brights only the two RH bulbs are lit fully, the two LH are not lit. whats wrong with my car? ok... GO!

What year car are we talking about herE? There should never be 2 lights on each side lit up. If you are talking 98+ the 2 outside lights are the low beams while the 2 inside lights are the high beams, the low beams always go off when the high beams go on.

sorry i said 4th gen i forgot about the '97/'98 switch, i have a '99. ok so i turned the lights on tonight and they were fine, the correct lights were lit, low-two outside, high-all four. however, i stopped to get gas and turned the lights off well the $#%#$% headlight motor started grinding again!!!! i swear i am SO sick of this. this is bullsh!t i really wish GM did a better job with these cars. so i guess now im just going to pull the fuses and leave the lights up all the time and replace the headlight motor before i sell this POS. im SO tired of this.
