5 point harness questions

i am looking at putting 5 point harnesses into my 87 iroc....i want to avoid putting holes in the floor and i do not have a roll bar nor do i want to put a roll bar or cage in...my question is can i attach the 5 point to the holes that the seat mounts in....has anyone done this or found a less crude look of putting a 5 point in...

Re: 5 point harness questions

Do not install a five point without a roll bar/cage, if you flip[ the car, you are stuck upright in the seat, and no bar to stop the roof from collapsing, with the factory 3 point(lap/shoulder), you can still slide/lean to the middle and get flat

Re: 5 point harness questions

Some things to think about.....

-Generally 5-point harnesses are not DOT certified for street use. Their SFI certification may make them better than a "stock" harness, but technically, they are not legal for street use. You have to keep the stock harness as well.

-The shoulder straps on a 5-point harness should not make more than a 45deg angle below horizontal. NHRA will not accept the straps unless they are attached (or wrap over the cross-bar) no more than 4" below the shoulders. When the shoulder straps are too low, the resolution of forces in a forward crash will cause the shoulder straps to put you spine in compression.
