86' z28 aftermarket tach help
Hello,
So, I just hooked up a Sun Super Tach II to my z28 and when it is grounded, the tach. pins past 8k rpms. Once I un-ground it, it drops back to zero.
The light works, and it must be getting power because it did move.
This is how its setup:
Ground is grounded to body
Signal is from the white wire on the coil
Light is straight from battery, but has a switch to toggle on/off.
Power is straight from battery
What could be wrong?

Well...Ive taken the ground wire and touched it at different places, with the same result. (even the battery ground post.
The tach is old, my uncle gave it to me a while ago and I think he had it in storage for years after buying it from a garage sale or something..
Any other possibility?
Thanks for the reply.

Ok. Well, switched the power wire and signal wire. Now the tach will stay at 0 until i turn the key to on or when I start it. The tach moves a bit, but I think I have the wrong wire spliced on the coil.
There's a white and black and a pink and black one I think, its spliced into the white one. Is this correct?
