I used to work for Safelite Autoglass. Sometimes our companies brand of windsheilds would have distortions but we would replace them at no cost if you had any problems. I never saw OEM glass have distortions though.

My original 94's windshield had a distortion around the middle of it, you could feel the glass sink in when wiping it. I just had it replaced because of a crack for $180 installed new windshield is so much nicer, no distortion, and no more damn scratches from the wipers.

It's probably some cheap glass that'll shatter not spider when I get in an accident. But i dont care, for now she looks 1000x better.

That's the trick, you get what you pay for. Safelite ONLY deals in Chinese windshields, that cost anywhere from $88 to $100 dollars. I replaced my cracked windshield 5 years ago (2018) with a genuine GM factory windshield manufactured by PPG (Pacific Plate & Glass). The windshield cost $735, fits perfectly, no whistles or distortions.
