'97 Help! Need Parking Brake Spring Tab Fix
When I pull on the E Brake handle it does not engage with the mechanism/gear in the console. I found the small spring (in the pic below) that forces the pawl into the toothed cam gear. However it appears the metal tab that is part of the handle is broken and their is no support or tab to hold the spring in place. Is their a simpler fix other than replacing the whole ebrake handle assembly? Does anyone have a picture of what that metal tab that is part of the handle looks like?

Yes, there is a piece of the arm broken off. You can probably find it on the floor under the lever. I would do one of two things.
1. Remove the lever/arm and have the part welded back on...or
2. Fabricate a steel piece in the shape of a flattened "Z" to fasten to the arm with small machine screws (or weld it)
or... 3. Put a bolt through the hole at the top of the slot to hold the center of the spring. You might have to drill a hole all the way through the lever for that.

Thank you for the pics! I am contemplating the fix by attaching a tab. And that would be challenging because the handle has a sliding mechanism inside that is actuated by the release button. Their is no room for error when drilling or screwing into the handle. Not an easy fix. )-: I may go with a used but not abused part from a recycler.
