Question 97 Z28 Vat Issues

I have a 97 z28 with a tore up ignition and a broken key with missing pellets. I can turn the ignition over with a screwdriver but it wont crank. I would like to just bypass the vat system with the resistor solution but their are 15 different combos and without the key to know which to use im not sure where to begin. Im trying to avoid making all 15, is there a place i can buy them online already put together? I obviously dont know very much about this so any info would be helpful.

You could use a potentiometer to try to "dial-in" the resistance value.

find the theft deterrant relay under the right hand dash. shbox has a good pisc of this on his sight. take the relay out and put a jumper wire from the yellow to the purple and see what happens, if it turns over them go from there. finally got mine running and it still has the jumper wire is still in there know it will stay permantly.

ok i bought the resistors online and none of them shut the security light off. The security light blinks when i turn the ignition to the on position but only the first time i turn the key, after that it no longer blinks just stays on no matter how many times i turn the key. After about maybe 7 or 8 mins the security light shuts off but it still wont fire. Im not sure where the TDR is located or if its the problem, underneath the glovebox? Any suggestions would be helpful thanks.

after multiple failures the system will shut down for around 15min to 1 hour, your vats system is under your kick panel, there will be a thin orange wire that meets with another (i think its white) you can bypass the entire system there are several write ups on the net. First you have to find the right resistor pellet, you might call GM to find out which one you need. After that i would recommend finding a shop that can do the bypass your local dealer may know of one, this is a fairly common issue, usually costs around 150.00 but after that your vats system will always read that the correct key is in place i can post pics of mine if you would like

if you tried it through the ignition it wont work if the wire has broken in the dash somewhere leading into the ignition switch, you have to bypass further down in the system

the tdr is a black or grey square cube relay under the right hand side up behind the glove box, mine was clipped on underneath to a metal strap holding it up. right beside it is a silver box which i think is air bag....
unplug the relay and take a peice of wire and jump from the yellow to the purple wire and see what happens. mine was doing that and it workes.. the yellow wire is coming from ignition and the purple is the solonoid wire jumping them together should send power to the starter through the ignition
